Premi Nobel contro l'oppressione in Birmania

Dichiarazione contro l’oppressione e l’ingiustizia in Birmania

Noi, i sottoscritti Premi Nobel, siamo oltraggiati dalla situazione dei diritti umani in Birmania. Esprimendo la nostra solidarietà al popolo birmano, denunciamo l’oppressione attuata dal governo della giunta. Inoltre condanniamo le continue e violente repressioni portate avanti contro i monaci buddisti e contro tutti gli altri dimostranti, le cui rimostranze pacifiche contro il governo sono sfociate, secondo i nuovi rapporti, in migliaia di arresti, morti e feriti.
Esortiamo la comunità internazionale, ed in particolare la Cina, la Russia e l’India, che hanno influenza in Myanmar, ad usare tale influenza sul Governo birmano per assicurare le libertà democratiche di base ai cittadini e per assicurare la protezione dei diritti umani. In aggiunta facciamo ulteriore richiamo agli appelli per il rilascio della nostra collega, il Premio Nobel per la Pace, Aung San Suu Kyi, che ha guidato la lotta non-violenta per la democrazia del popolo birmano, ricavandone come risultato gli arresti domiciliari durante la maggior parte dei 18 anni passati.
